One of the most important aspects of the job of proofreading is being able to fit in with a specific style or tone requested by the client. Like preserving the writer’s voice, it is important to be able to convey a sense of identity or a particular style requested by the client. Never is this a more important skill for the proofreader than in the case of house style, when it is extremely important to adhere to a specific set of guidelines set out for the style of a text produced by or on behalf of a specific group or organisation.
